Colbert
The episode I watched was about gay marriage. I didnt really know what to think when I watched this one... I thought it was funny but at the same time I can see where some people would think it would be offensive. I like how he acted out a situation of a gay couple and acted like it was about him. I would like to watch more of this show because he makes good points but in a different, and funny way. He definitely is not affraid to speak his opinion.

Proposal
I think I have decided to write my essay about a student who committed suicide this past year. I believe this event has truely changed me as a person. Even though I didnt know him it affected me greatly. It changed the way I look at people, and that I should never judge or shut anyone out just because they dont look like someone I would hangout with. I like to think it brought out the real me, and I learned not to be afraid to step up and say something to someone if I had a problem.

Three Essay Topics
My first topic I have in mind is about a student at my school who comitted suicide. It was at the end of my senior year during our morning announcements our principal told us a freshman had died. They showed his picture on the screen and then I had realized who he was. I had seen him many times in the hallway walking very fast. I had never actually talked to him but I always wondered why he was walking so fast or where he was going. Later after his funeral I found out that many of the students in my grade had been picking on him all year. They made fun of him for his long hair and the clothes he wore. When I found out how people had been treating him it made me so mad that no one had said anything or even tried to help him out What made me more mad was that I didnt know all this was going on. This was an event in my life that changed the way I look at people and treat them, it has made me a better person. It was probably one of the biggest life lessons I have learned and changed me as a person.
My second topic is about swimming. I have been swimming since I was nine. It has played a huge part in my life. I wouldnt say it has changed me as a person but it has really made who I am today. Most of my closest friends I have met through swimming. It has taught me dedication and what hard work is. It's something I love and put a lot of time in to.
My third choice is getting my first job. My first interview was one of the scariest days of my life. I had no idea what to expect. I had nothing to worry about though because I ended up getting the job as a lifeguard at a fitness club near my house. I was so excited to actually start "working". That feeling only lasted about a month. I soon realized that all that money I had just recieved can disappear in a heartbeat. My mom works three jobs for the two of us, and it made me think that everytime I want a new pair of jeans or shirt that thats her money she had just worked hard for and I'm taking it away. I think getting a job made me more mature. I now think about what I'm going to buy and if I actually need it. It also made me more responsible. I had to remember to go to my shifts even if I didnt want to go stand outside in the hot weather and watch a bunch of little kids play in a pool.

What Defines Me
There will never be one specific word or thing that defines me in my life right now. If I had to choose I would say friends and family describe me the most.
My family isnt very big but we are very close. Growing up it has just been me and my mom since I was one. We are very close and she has taught me how to grow as a person and many lessons I will keep with me forever. She continues to teach me without even knowing it. She has showed me how to be strong and work for what you want. Being a single parent she has had to work three jobs just to take care of me. She is my role model and I wouldnt be who I am today without her.
My friends are also very important to me. They are who I am most comfortable around to be myself. We have all learned from eachother in someway whether we tried to or not. I have gained many characteristics like honesty, trust, and just how to have fun. My friends play a major role in who I am today.
